Don’t Forget the Crate Bed

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Puppies can be very fun but also require a little work to be taught the rules of their new environment. Many puppy owners have found that a crate is a wonderful way to train their new addition. It allows them to keep the puppy contained when they are gone. They can be used as an effective potty training method for your puppy. Your new little friend will not want to go in their bed and learns to wait for you to take them out. A crate can also become a safe place for them to relax.

A crate needs to be a positive part of your puppy’s environment. They must have a comfortable bed in the crate for resting. Leaving them on a hard crate floor can be hard on their joints and could cause severe problems as they get older. They will also not feel comfortable or safe. A good bed is definitely required if they are going to be in the crate for long periods of time or will be sleeping there.

Dog crate beds are made to match the sizes of crates available for purchase. When shopping for your dog’s bed, know the measurement of the crate so the bed will not be too big. It should be easy to clean in case your puppy has an accident. Check the material and durability of the bed. Puppies chew and you do not want them to be able to destroy it easily or get a hold of toxic materials.

These types of beds are very versatile. If you decide to get rid of the crate, the bed can be put somewhere else as a permanent resting place for your growing puppy. Getting the right size and a durable one is most important. A good bed will make your puppy comfortable in their new surroundings. This means less whining, barking, and chewing for you and a more enjoyable time with your new pet.
