How to Stop a Dog from Shedding

Shedding is a natural part of your dog’s development. How much they shed depends on many factors with one of the biggest being the type of breed. Some breeds shed year round and others do most of their shedding before and after the winter months. Adopting a hairless breed is the only way to completely eliminate dealing with pet hair. Shedding allows a dog’s new coat to come in and them to be comfortable. Although the process cannot be completely stopped, it can be controlled and maintained so that a majority of pet hair does not take over your home and belongings.

The key to controlling shedding is proper care and grooming of your pet. Brush them daily and give them regular baths with a shampoo designed to reduce shedding. Trim them when necessary and make sure they get plenty of exercise and time outdoors. Grooming is half the battle.
Proper dog nutrition
is the other part. Your dog needs to be fed a high quality food that provides them with the nutrients they need for proper health and growth.
Dog supplements
should also be given to promote a healthy coat and skin. If your dog is unhealthy, they will shed more.

Health problems such as ringworm, mange, skin infections, and high stress can cause abnormal hair loss and bald spots. If this is occurring, a trip to your vet is required. Once the condition has been handled, then basic grooming and nutrition should drastically reduce shedding. A good health routine can keep your home from being overtaken by hair and you will enjoy your home and companion without extra hassle. Make sure your dog is healthy and happy, and you will be rewarded with a cleaner home and the comfort of knowing your best friend has everything they need to have a great life.
